From 288 to 700 + cases
Since the 18th of July Zihuatanejo has gone from 288 cases to over 700. For Por Los Ninos and the Rice and Beans Program, this means our work to deliver 300 food hampers per week is not going to be over anytime soon. It has been 18 weeks now. That translates to 5,400 families. As people return to work new families come on to our system. Businesses are slowly reopening, hotels and restaurants are still at much-reduced capacity and restrictions.
We don’t want people traveling on the local buses as the government feels that is a high area of contagion. We are increasing the food hampers that provide the basics for 2 weeks for a family of 4 to include fresh fruits, vegetables, and eggs. It increases the cost of each delivery but if we can help keep families safe and at home, it is worth it.
We also provide baby formula and milk supplements to families with small children. We can’t thank the donors enough for their help. I am overwhelmed with the generosity of the people who care for our Mexican neighbors.
