Donations for 2,000 food hampers

First, thank you so much for your donations.

We have now delivered more than 2000 food hampers to the needy families of Zihuatanejo. We have a database of every person who has received anything thanks to Sue Torgeson, a tedious job but necessary as we only deliver every two weeks to the same family to make sure we can cover everyone fairly.

Yesterday we were in a little colonia high above Zihuatanejo and a little boy arrived when we were handing out the food hampers. We thought he belonged to one of the Mom’s in line but as we prepared to leave he burst into tears, which of course got our attention. When we investigated we learned his family needed food too. When he thought he wasn’t getting anything the tears started to flow. He ended up going home with a double! He and others like him are the reason we do what we do, thanks to the generosity of our donors. He couldn’t have been more than 8. It was all he could do to carry all of it but he didn’t want to come in the truck with us.

Thanks again, you are putting food in the bellies of many more little guys like him and his family. Everyone is so grateful. This isn’t going to be over anytime soon, hotels are starting to reopen on the 15th of June but it will be months before all the seasonal workers in tourism will be called back to work, many businesses won’t reopen. Our plan is to stay the course. Zihuatanejo is a special place and we need to take care of its people who make us feel so welcome.
