Our administrator, Lorenzo Marbut, was honored by the Mexican government as the “Distinguished Immigrant of the Year” at the International Day of the Immigrant ceremony in Zihuatanejo. They cited his contributions for economic, social, and cultural development in Mexico. In his acceptance speech, Lorenzo insisted that the honor actually belonged to all the volunteers, donors and partners; joking, “Soy solomente el hombre en frente con una boca grande” (I’m just the guy in front with a big mouth).
Lorenzo also is the founder and president of our sister non-profit Los Niños, Inc. in the United States, and is a member of the Zihuatanejo Rotary Club. Additionally, he serves on a Zihuatanejo municipal council for education and on the planning commission for the proposed new university.
