Other Specific Areas of Need

Sailfest is the main fundraiser for our charity. Donations to our two “sister” organizations, made via the Los Niños website, qualify for U.S. tax deductible status.

Carol's "Rice and Beans"

Carol’s “Beans & Rice” program. Provides supplemental nutrition at low-income schools to ensure that even the most disadvantaged child receives a healthy lunch.

Natasha's "Buy a Desk" Program!

Provides a $45.usd school desk at one our new rural primary schools built in partnership with Rotary International and the City of Zihuatanejo.

Outfit a Student

Outfit a primary school student for a year with a school uniform, shoes, backpack and class supplies for a donation of $95 USD

Teachers Fund

Many dedicated young teachers are unpaid volunteers; others receive a modest $180.usd a month for this demanding work. We try to provide a small stipend of $90.usd a month to the unpaid teachers when funds are available.

Building Fund

In partnership with the City of Zihuatanejo, Rotary International and Por Los Niños de Zihuatanejo, a fund has been established to build safe permanent schools on land donated by the city and the state.

School Supplies

Teachers are currently trying to make do with just a few blackboards and very limited supplies. They need nearly everything; more blackboards, charts, maps, diagrams, vocabulary & math flashcards, and other vital teaching tools.

Art Fund

Construction paper, crayons, colored pencils & markers, compasses, child scissors, drawing paper, coloring books and craft kits will permit these children to explore their creative talents.

Athletic Fund

Recognizing the need to nourish young bodies as well as young minds, we welcome funding for playground equipment, such as soccer & basketballs, nets and outdoor games.
Important Note: In the unlikely event that a particular need is over-subscribed, we may redirect your donation to the most closely related need.

Other Partners

Local Parents

The parents of the students provide most of the labor to construct our classrooms, kitchens and playgrounds. Many of our dedicated, young teachers are un-paid volunteers. Dozens of International community residents donate their time, talent and resources to enhance the education of our bright-eyed young scholars.

Our Business Community

Each year more than 200 community-spirited local businesses donate gifts and services to Sailfest auctions and raffles. They also provide generous discounts on the materials we purchase for our school projects.

Zihuatanejo's Musicians

Our finest local musicians, and their international friends, donate their music every year for the production of our Sounds of Zihua's CDs. They also volunteer to perform at the annual Zihua Sailfest benefit concert, and to play concerts at schools. These thoughtful artists have helped to build 14 classrooms with their voices and guitars.

SOB Volleyball Vacations

Tom and friends have been celebrating volleyball here in paradise since 1994.  Sensitive to the plight of underprivileged children, they are generous annual donors.

Los Niños, Inc

A small Portland, Oregon-based, Non-profit Organization founded by Lawrence “Lorenzo” Marbut and administered by Maryellen Jackson, Los Niños focuses on the basic needs of the children and teachers; uniforms, shoes, school supplies, teaching materials, health care,  reading, English language and supplemental nutrition programs.
